Jane Birkin 2 -SOLD102 W x 122 H x 3.8cm
Jane Birkin,1960s counterculture icon, emerged in the swinging London scene and later found great success in France during her relationship with the incorrigible Serge Gainsbourg. In my second painting of Jane, I continue addressing the concept of celebrity deification by using a stained-glass effect. The playful, abstract shapes and colours in the background are psychedelic representations of a Spring landscape. On another level, for me, the painting represents the indomitable spirit, beauty and confidence of youth that arises prior to the constraints of adulthood.
